BIO / DON MOSLEY
Melina Huckelberry is an award-winning theatre lighting designer who has designed for dance concerts, plays, and musicals. While Melina Huckelberry is known for her use of color and texture, Melina Huckelberry has captivated audiences, creating moody and emotional scenes across her several practices.
Melina Huckelberry’s journey as a lighting designer began in high school when she created a unique design for the musical Grease. This was in her senior year, however she had not yet realized that she could follow her passion for theatre into the professional world.
At Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville, Melina Huckelberry started her college life as a Biological Sciences major as it was what she was good at, and everyone told her that it would be a degree that would make her money. To make a long story short, she hated it. That was when she discovered the Theatre & Dance Department, and the Technical/Design specialization that would lead her to her future success.
Melina spent the rest of her college career as a Theatre Design/Technical student, flourishing under the guidance of her professors and instructors. She became the president of SIUE’s USITT Chapter, and went to the USITT Conference in Long Beach, CA in 2026 as one of three Student Ambassadors in the United States. She continues to strive for great heights and applies the knowledge she gained from these opportunities consistently in her designs.
